The Pixel Heart Necklace featured in the Mayfair Times May 2014 Wishlist
‘Andrew Grima was a jewellery colossus. His creations, with a full-box-of-paints palette and a swagger that was typical of the 1960s and 1970s, influenced other famous jewellery and clothes designers – such as Alexander McQueen, Stephen Webster and Solange Azagury-Partridge. Even the Queen often wears a dazzling ruby brooch designed by Grima. In his latter years, he became a kind of in-house jeweller for Gstaad, the upmarket ski resort in Switzerland. Grima’s sole heir, Francesca, has now started her own jewellery business. Here designs are less formal than those of her father, but they show that she has inherited his design genius. This piece of jewellery created by Francesca has 51 princess-cut diamonds that seem to have been poured over the blackened gold heart pendant. The result is asymmetrical and dazzling. The piece is a beautiful opening act in what promises to be a long-running revival of this family’s influence in the jewellery world.
